7 meaningful ways of helping Ukrainian refugees

1. Science for Ukraine

#ScienceForUkraine is a community group of volunteer students and research scientists from academic institutions in Europe and around the world. Its mission is to collect and disseminate information about support opportunities at the university, national, and international level for graduate students and researchers directly affiliated to an academic institution in Ukraine.

Through Science for Ukraine, you can provide fellowship/scholarship, part time/full time employment, accomodation in a dormitory or institution guest quarters, support for accompanying family members, office space, computer with internet access, and/or access to library and/or lab facilities.

To help, you just need to use the hashtag #ScienceForUkraine in any position with immediate availability dedicated to Ukrainian researchers which are not already in their database, or fill in the web form.


2. Global Platform for Higher Education in Emergencies

The Global Platform for Higher Education in Emergencies is a NGO based in Portugal. It is aimed at offering academic opportunities for students from conflict-affected societies, in forced mobility or at risk.

It started its activities in 2013 as the Global Platform for Syrian Students. The Global Platform is now working in close cooperation with higher education institutions, networks of laboratories and research centers in Portugal to offer academic opportunities to students/researchers and scholars from Ukraine who are fleeing the war and look for a safe haven and a welcoming environement to go ahead through these very challenging times.

To help, all you need to do is to raise awareness at the institution you work on that this NGO exists.


3. Portugal For Ukraine

The Portugal for Ukraine platform aims to combine in one place all the Portuguese State actions underway regarding the conflict in Ukraine, in terms of international action, sending humanitarian aid and the integration and hosting of displaced persons in Portugal.

To help, you need to fill in a web form and the Portuguese State will contact you soon.


4. Tech for Ukraine

This Portuguese platform in the tech field have created a network of coordinators, investors, and tech volunteers.

The "Individual Talent" section is divided by skills: designer, IT, programmer, marketing, PR, HR, Team Leadership, Management, Ecosystem Coordinator, and others.

In the Businesses section, you can select between startup, scaleup, and corporate.

In the Investors section, there are four options: "angel", "fund manager", "VC", and "Bank".

5. Somos Todos Ucrânia

The municipalities of Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia and Matosinhos came together in a humanitarian response that seeks, above all, to organize all the demonstrations of support, especially in the provision of goods, services, employment and hospitality.


6. We Help Ukraine

WeHelpUkraine.org is a platform that helps Ukrainian refugees to help worldwide support.

You can apply for help with accommodation, financial, medical and psychological support, refugee status, logistics, jobs and local language classes.


7. Housing for Refugees

As the name states, in this website you can offer housing for a Ukrainian refugee. All you need to do is to fill in the web form.
